Your student should complete this activity with adult involvement at home or in your community.

Basic Budgeting:

• As a family, discuss the concept of paying bills.  Talk about the different categories that bills fall into, as well as bills that change and those that stay the same.

Taxes:

• While driving, point out items that are paid for with tax money.

Charitable Giving:

• Help your student identify an item, an amount of money, or an amount of time to be contributed to a charity of his/her choice.

Opportunity Costs:

• Have your student help decide what will be made for dinner one night.  Give them at least three options.  Eliminate options one at a time.  Explain that once it comes down to the top two choices, the dinner not chosen is the opportunity cost.
